About the author
Murray N. Rothbard (1926-1995) was the S. J. Hall Distinguished Professor of Economics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Academic Vice President of the Ludwig von Mises Institute. "Mr. Libertarian" as well as the dean of Austrian School economists, Rothbard was educated at Columbia University, where he received his BA, MA, and PhD, and he studied under Ludwig von Mises at New York University.
He was the author of 25 books, including Man, Economy, and State; The Panic of 1819; America's Great Depression; Power and Market; The Ethics of Liberty; Conceived in Liberty (four volumes); and An Austrian History of Economic Thought (two volumes). He was the editor of two academic journals, The Review of Austrian Economics and The Journal of Libertarian Studies; three popular journals, Left and Right, Libertarian Forum, and The Rothbard-Rockwell Report; and the author of more than three thousand articles. His most important scholarly articles are collected in the two-volume Logic of Action. His huge collection of books and papers are housed at the Ludwig von Mises Institute, which carries on his work.

What others are saying:
Despite all the talk about education reform, now decades running, this debate has not yet begun, primarily because the topical boundaries have been too narrowly drawn. With his sweeping and unflinchingly radical rethinking of the very structure of educational institutions, Professor Rothbard shocks us out of our stupor and calls us toward the total reconceptualization that is more necessary than ever.
- Kevin Ryan, Emeritus Professor of Education; Director, Center for Advancement of Ethics and Character, Boston University
