The message of this book is clear - help parents act by removing children from "public" schools. Dr. Laura Schlessinger says: "This book is a must read for every parent. It is sad but true that the public school system in America threatens the values of families and the welfare of students. It is for that reason that Dr. James Dobson and I urge parents to take their children out of public school and either home-school or find private, traditionally religious schools."
Excerpts from the Book For ... parents who think they have no alternatives, my book will explain why you don't have to settle for a third-rate public-school education for your children. You do have alternatives, many excellent, low-cost alternatives that can give your children a first-rate education and a rewarding future. (p. 4) The main reason our public schools fail, and will continue to fail, is because they are a compulsory,, government-run, near-total education monopoly. (p.3) A school teacher for a fifth-grade class in Minneapolis wrote the following letter to the local newspaper: ". . . I was told [that] children are not to be expected to spell the following words correctly: black, big, call, came, can, day, did, dig, down, get, good, if, in, is, it, have, he, home, like, little, man, morning, mother, my, night, off, out, over, people, play, ran, said, saw, she, some, soon, their, them, there, time, two, too, up, us, very, water, we, went, where, when, will, would, etc. Is this nuts?" (p. 14) By the 1850s, before we had compulsory, government-controlled public schools, child and adult literacy rates averaged over 90 percent, making illiteracy rates less than 10 percent. Today, as shown by the New York State Education Department's annual report and other studies, student illiteracy rates in many public schools range from 30 to 70 percent. This is an education horror story and betrayal of our children. (p. 16)

His current book was the result of over three years of research and writing.

- Alan Bonsteel, M.D., author of A Choice For Our Children: Curing the Crisis In America's Schools
This is an excellent, thoroughly documented and detailed exposition of what's wrong with the public schools. The author makes it clear that parents have a responsibility to make sure that their children get a good education, which is no longer to be had in a government school. His chapters on the widespread drugging of children by the 'educators' and the negative effects of such medication should be read by every parent with a child in public school. What can parents do about it? The author outlines the benefits of homeschooling, which is no doubt the best alternative to the public schools available to parents. How can a parent homeschool if he or she has to work? The author addresses that problem and provides some very creative suggestions. If you are a parent wrestling with the problem of education for your children, this book is for you. . . .
